The only thing you might have paid attention to the most was the time.

Things got worse when English lessons got more boring if your teachers look like…

Wait! I’m not saying the woman above is ugly or mean any disrespect for teachers out there. However the purpose of this post today is talking about appearance, clothes and image.

The above picture clearly shows that the teacher was not very adventurous in her dressing, no make-up and hair pulled back in a nonchalant fashion.

Did this made English lessons more boring and loatheful?

I can relate a personal experience and emphatize with you. Few years ago in college I’d to take a general subject which was advanced Mathematics. Gosh! There was not a single soul in my class who liked the subject. I HATED it! Every lesson we would either curse the equations we had to learn or the teacher.

For one, the teacher looked like she had not slept in days with dark eye rings, very anorexic and in a similar attire in the picture above.

I did not curse her, I sympathized with her instead. No one paid attention to her lessons, we were all MSN-ing each other on our laptops, nodded our heads when she affirms something she said and made brief eye contact with her every now and then, to show her that we were paying attention.

Few months later, poor teacher quit teaching and soon came a new teacher.

So everyone was expecting another similar routine with this new teacher when we were woken up by…

“Good Morning Class!”

A loud, vivacious and playful voice greeted us.

You should see the look on my classmates faces especially the boys. They couldn’t get their eyes off her and the girls were squealing that she’ so cute!!!

No, Miss New Teacher did not look anything like the above picture. No thigh high boots, short skirt and fish net stocking.

Instead Miss New Teacher wore respectable 3 inch high heels sandals, long sleeved shirt, tight fitting pencil skirt which accentuates her hour glass figure, light refreshing make-up with sexy pinkish red lipstick which decorated her lips and a personality to match!

Miss New Teacher was anything but boring!

I swear you could see a sudden surge of interest in Advance Mathematics in my class. MSN-ing one another became a tool of chat topics such as “who comes out with the best Math equation to IMPRESS her!” or “how interesting Miss New Teacher ’s lessons are…” when seriously whatever she taught was exactly the same as what the previous teacher taught us.

Miss New Teacher was the talk of the school!

Now, what if I told you that there’s an English teacher in the internet world that you would most probably not bore you to death?

I bet you would be dying to find out right!!!?

However, what if I said that this teacher uses “Sex to teach”?

Do you think you would like her or would you squirm in disgust?

Well, let’s find out!

Let me introduce your teacher -

Founder of HotForWords, Marina Orlova, she’s 27 and she’s a philologist! Philologist is someone who studies linguistics and etymology and in Marina’s case she specialises in word origins. Ok, maybe not a true english teacher which teaches you nouns, grammars, adjectives and sentence structures. But at least learning about words and their origins is still an appreciation of English right?

Anyway…

This teacher teaches her students via video clips which she uploads on her youtube channel regularly, as shown in the image above. She even gives her students homework!

It is undeniable that Marina uses Sex to Sell and has a tagline which says “Intelligence Is Sexy!”.

However do you think that her dressing which bared her clevage and a considerable of skin on her videos were overdone?

Do you think it is appropriate for Marina to potray herself as an English teacher on Youtube with the choice of attire and image she has?

Do you think that her image was fine but her content should be restricted for Adult viewing only on Youtube?

Here’s what I feel - I feel that it is great that Marina uses Sex to Sell by saying that Intelligence is Sexy! I can totally agree with her on that. However I felt uncomfortable when my 14 year old brother and 10 year old sister could easily access her videos on youtube and asked me why an English teacher was dressing like a Porn Star! That led me to do this post and highly anticipating for your feedback.

I did more reading and research on the market Marina from HotForWords were attracting. I found out that she attracted mostly men, some genuinely wanted to learn origin of words but most were “virtually” masturbating on her videos!

On the other hand I read a comment from a mother who thanked Marina for her videos which sparked interest in her son in the English language.

Whatever it is, this strategy Marina has used worked well to make her #1 Guru on Youtube and my outmost respect goes to her accomplishments.

So today we discussed about clothing and image.

How far would you dress sexy in business or in your job?
