Dear Ladies, Follow Palin And Laugh Your Way To The Bank
Did you watch the VP Presidential Debate 2 days ago?
If you recall in the previous post Sexy Ladies, have the Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy gave you a bad complexion? I mentioned that in my next post I’ll touch on the How-To Start a business for women.
You must be wondering, what does the U.S Elections or Palin has anything to do with it?
Don’t worry, Ladies. I’m not going to bore you with the political games. As you read further, you’ll see the relevance.
As promised, I’ll deliver good content blog post for YOU to take action and bring yourself a step forward towards building and improving the business of your dreams.
Anyway!
As I watched the VP Presidential Debate, I observed Governor Sarah Palin.
I have read and heard a lot about her when John Mc Cain announced that Sarah Palin was going to be his Republican running mate. She created headline news after delivering her acceptance speech.
It wasn’t about the content of the speech.
I’m talking about her personal image.
I must say I had a GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION of her the night she walked onto the stage.
After that night, Gov. Palin’s personal style has sparked a buying frenzy. Many women around the globe were snapping up her choices of shoes and eyeglasses and blogging about which brand of lipstick she wears. Hairstylists and wig sellers report sudden demand for her trademark hair-do.

At Amazon.com, sales of the red Naughty Monkey shoes Governor Palin wore on her acceptance speech, shot up 50%, to thousands of pairs!

I am sure irregardless of whether you’re a Democrat, Republican or know nuts about the U.S elections, you must agree that Sarah Palin didn’t have to hide her femininity in an arena dominated by men!
Palin uses her body for more than a clothes rack, that sends a signal of power and authority. She has excellent non-verbal cues - eye contact, a composure of her face, upright posture and a powerful stride when she walks.
Today, I observed (again) the way she dresses, the way she speaks, her body language and the X-factor she exudes. Sarah Palin knows how to capture America’s attention and use the Charm she has to relate to America.
Even though at times, Palin couldn’t answer questions directly, somehow you would have a certain degree of inclination to agree with her. You would still listen out and watch her. It’s as if you’re “hooked” to her.
In other words, you were “Charmed”.
Of course being “Charmed” by Palin is more than just how she was dressed up. However you can’t deny that part of that Charm comes from her physical attractivess in terms of dressing.

I read from a source over the internet that one of the Republican campaign strategies was to use Sarah Palin’s womanly Charm to win votes over to their side.
Are they wrong for using this strategy?
No, they are not.
Were they successful in doing that?
Yes and No at the same time.
I agree that Charm is an undeniably helpful tool to influence people in many ways. However I also agree that Charm without Substance would not bring you very far. People would see through you sooner.
Let’s put things into perspective.
Picture this - You’re dressed well, well-groomed, you use the right tone and choice of words in your conversations, you use the right body language signals and at the same time you have Substance.

Substance meaning you know what you’re doing, you’re opiniated not for the sake of arguing but for the very purpose of sharing the truth, you are well read and have a diversed range of knowledge and you are able to put things in perspective based on facts and evidence.
You can’t deny that by having the prerequisites above and using some charm, it could get you further and capture your market’s attention almost immediately.
What more if you can work your magic as a woman to not only capture but also to RETAIN your market’s attention.
At the other end of the scale, if you’ve all the smarts and substance in the world but looked like you’ve not showered in days, you wear oversized T-shirt and dark eye rings proudly visible, no one would take a second glance at you what more to listen to you. They would build a wall even though what you might be saying is IMPORTANT.

But why?
It is simply because people form judgements about you in the first 7 to 30 seconds that they look at you.
In our fast paced society where we are always chasing after time, it is almost impossible to find out every details about every person we meet. Thus we are always scanning and pre-judging whatever that we can capture in that few seconds we meet someone.
We will look for visual cues and images from the person’s body, posture and dress sense even before they uttered a word.
We would then translate those images as evidence to our eyes and believe whatever judgements we had for that person is true until proven wrong.
This is not rocket science and this topic has been discussed even before I was born.
So why am I blogging about this topic today?
- As a form of Great Emphasis to you, budding and current businesswomen out there.
- Forget about running a business if you refuse to change your personal image.
- Forget about making millions, thousands or even hundreds if you refuse to step out of your comfort zone and take the effort to put some decency in your dressing.
- Forget about empowering other women if you can’t even show women out there that you’re taking care of and are putting enormous value to yourself.
You can have all the business knowledge in the world, know of the proven marketing strategies for your business and have good contacts. BUT if you skip the very first basic foundation towards building a successful business, then you’ll bound to fail.
The basic fundamentals I’m talking about here is - Dressing Up.
It’s like building a pyramid without a base.
How do you progress to the apex of the pyramid without building a strong solid foundation?
I gave a talk to a women’s network group a few months ago and here are 4 common problems with regards to personal image which you might share too.
1) Lack of time to do EVERYTHING else involving self but work.

2) Weight gain due to “Lack of time” and feeding their minds that businesswomen are inevitably overweight anyway due to nature of their job so it’s OK to be overweight and OK not to make time to exercise.

3) Can’t dress up-to date in fashion because need to “fit in” with the men dominating business world. Thus fashion sense are limited to black, blue and grey.

4) Dressing up is too expensive!
Come on ladies! 1), 2), 3) and 4) are all plain EXCUSES!
Don’t you know that the reason you’re putting in extra time in work is due to your lack of time dedicated towards your personal image?
It is because you lack in personal image, you’ve to put in outrageous time and effort to impress, market and promote your business.
What other well-dressed businesswomen are doing half your time in skyrocketting their business towards making money, you’re disadvantaging yourself by doing it 4 folds more! Isn’t that jeopardising your personal self and a waste of your time?
2, it is NOT OK to NOT make time for exercise. Look my dear women. If you actually took the effort to dress up well, it would take you lesser effort to impress your clients, promote your business and rack up more sales. With lesser effort, you would promote your business more efficiently and effectively, you make more money and also save more time.

Wldn’t it be lovely to dedicate that extra hour towards your health?
Besides the attractive prospects of looking good for greater profits and opportunities in your business, Wldn’t you want to live longer to watch your children grow up, spend more quality time with your spouse (which you’ve been negleting by always nosing in work and being insensitive towards his sexual needs by looking like a doormat) and feeling more energetic and confident about yourself?

3. We, women are the most aesthetically pleasing creatures on earth! Why are you diluting all your femininity and be more like the men just to “Fit In”?
Fitting in is not about being like others.
Fitting in, is being YOURSELF, being what you are - A WOMAN and letting your personality shine through.
People like talking to and being around with people who appreciates their very existence.
AND If you worry, let me address your fears by telling you that dressing up and being up-to date in fashion would not undermine your capabilities in the business world.
It does NOT!
I have been doing business for years and I am a real life testimonial to the above statement.
Also, take the example of Governor Palin. She is a political figure and I’m sure her schedule is as CRAZY as yours or even more. Yet she still takes the time and effort to do her hair up properly (I don’t care whether it’s outdated. My point is, she took the effort to groom it), wears a decent amount of make-up, choose the right shoes, clothes and accesories.
In return, she created new raving fans around the globe and has indirectly helped retail businesses profit from her simple act of being well-dressed.
You may argue - “She has a stylist!”
Then take the example of Michelle Obama, potentially America’s first Black first lady, who reportedly has no Stylist whatsoever. She creates headlines with her identifiable style of the average working American women and mothers. She even made Vanity Fair ’s international best dressed list for second year in a row!

At times, she went a little mismatched but generally she’s up-to date with fashion considering she has no stylist.
There’s no secret to Michelle Obama’s style. Really.

All you need to do is to flip through some fashion magazines and earmark what fashion style suits your personality!
And 4. NO! The one common mentality women have when it come to the word “Dressing Up” in business would be “Designer labels”. You do not necessarily have to be clad in Valentino, Dolce Gabanna or Chanel to create a powerful first impression! In fact you do not need designer lables to FEEL powerful, ladies.

In the next blog post, I would be suggesting some cost friendly sites which would help you kickstart on a wardobe makeover. I’ll also share with you some of my personal fashion styles so that we can critique and help each other out to look our best!
You CAN do it Ladies!
I can guarantee you that you would be able to see the positive effects it would have on your business.
People will judge YOU, just as you judge people (whether consciously or not).
Again, first impressions are important in business. It is important to make a good lasting first impression in any given business situation – sales meeting, meeting with a new prospect, pitching a new product/service, presenting at a conference or meeting an investor.

Remember, you’re selling YOURSELF everyday.
You want people to like you, favour you and talk to you.
No one wants to be disliked and ignored.
Agree?
Now, let’s move on to find out the 5 MONEY reasons Why creating a powerful first impression is profitable for your business.

As an overweight businesswoman, I wear business suits every day. You never know when and where you will meet a client and it is vital for me as a businesswoman that I always leave them with a huge impression. Many people may think of this as being boring but I prefer suits.
Yes I am over weight and need to lose 60lbs to get my weight down but regular business lunches and going that extra mile by arranging business meetings for clients after hours are extremely important. Its giving your client the service they pay for and as an executive you are paid for doing it. You can be overweight and still look professional. As for suits being too expensive, shop around there deals out there
